Celebrating Mild Month in May

Wednesday 29 April 2026

Every May, CAMRA branches across the UK mark Mild Month, celebrating a traditional beer style that once faced declining popularity. And here at the Yorkshire Wolds branch, with many mild fans among our number, we're proud to be joining in!

The campaign encourages our local pubs to serve at least one mild throughout the month, to help champion a style which almost faced extinction.

Mild dates back to the late 18th and 19th centuries, created in response to demand for a sweeter, less heavily hopped alternative to porter. While early versions were stronger, modern milds are typically around 3–3.5% ABV, though some brewers are reviving higher-strength examples.

Usually dark brown, mild is brewed with roasted malts or barley, giving it a rich, malty character with notes of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee and caramel, balanced by a gentle hop bitterness.

You can learn more about CAMRA's Mild Month or follow Yorkshire Wolds CAMRA on Facebook or X to see which pubs in Bridlington, Driffield, Hornsea and surrounding areas are serving mild.
